North America Green Hydrogen Market Size, Growth, Trends, Forecast (2023-2030)
According to the Universal Data Solutions, various key players in the renewable sector are collaborating to reduce the price of electrolyzes which will eventually reduce the overall cost of green hydrogen production. As per their “North America Green Hydrogen Market” report, the global market is at a CAGR of 66.5% during the forecast period from 2023 - 2030 to reach USD 19,377.37 million by 2030.
The United States has recently rejoined the Paris Agreement and launched Energy Earthshot, a new initiative aimed at reducing the cost of clean hydrogen by 80% to $1 per 1kg within a decade. The country is taking an 'all R&D community' approach to leading science and technology innovations to address technological challenges and cost hurdles and advance solutions around climate science.
Over the next five years, there are as many as 30 green hydrogen projects planned in the United States, with a total value of $14 billion. The states spending the most on green hydrogen projects over the next ten years are Mississippi, California, Louisiana, and Texas.
Recent Projects Started in 2023:
St. Gabriel Green Hydrogen Plant- Plug Power Inc. and Olin Corporation have recently created a new joint venture called Hidrogenii. Under this venture, Olin will manufacture hydrogen and provide operational support, while Plug Power will work towards marketing the hydrogen and providing logistical support. By 2025, Plug Power aims to produce 500 tons per day of liquid green hydrogen, which in turn will prevent 4.3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions in North America. Additionally, by 2028, the company plans to double its production to 1,000 tons per day of liquid green hydrogen.
Sauk Valley Green Hydrogen Plant: The project aims to produce green hydrogen by utilizing energy from Invenergy's solar plant, in conjunction with Ohmium International's low carbon electrolyzer technology. The plant began operations in 2023 and can generate 52 tonnes of hydrogen per year, with on-site storage of up to 400kg. The facility will be equipped with Ohmium's PEM electrolyzer, which can produce 6kg of hydrogen per hour.
Kingsland Green Hydrogen Plant: Plug Power is operating a green hydrogen facility in Camden County, Georgia. The plant will produce 15 tonnes of hydrogen per day, which will be liquefied, stored, and then transported. The project is expected to create over 200 jobs during construction and will begin operating by the end of 2023.

Casa Grande Green Hydrogen Plant: Air Products owns and operates a green hydrogen plant in Casa Grande, Arizona, which produces 10 metric tons per day. The production process eliminates carbon by powering the entire facility with zero-carbon renewable power. The plant will use two ThyssenKrupp Nucera electrolyzers to produce gaseous hydrogen, which will be converted to liquid hydrogen using Air Products’ proprietary technology. Additionally, the site will include a terminal for distributing products to customer locations.
