In Vancouver, the grocery stores are big and clean. I went to stores like Save-On-Foods, Real Canadian Superstore, and No Frills. The stores have many choices. You can find fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, bread, and also snacks and drinks. The workers are kind and helpful. When I cannot find something, I ask them and they show me where it is.

The price in Vancouver is not cheap. Sometimes the fruits are very expensive, like berries or mangoes. But some things are cheap, like bread or milk. I like to look for discount signs. When something has a yellow tag, it means it is cheaper.

In Vancouver, people use shopping cart. The cart is big, and you push it while you walk. Many people come to grocery store with family. Some people come after work, so it can be busy at 5 or 6 PM. You have to wait in line to pay.

There are many products from other countries too. You can find rice from Thailand, noodles from Korea, or spices from India. I like to see food from other cultures. I think it makes shopping more fun.

Grocery Store in Rome

In Rome, the grocery store is different. The stores are smaller, and sometimes they are in old buildings. But the food is very fresh and smells nice. I went to stores like Coop, Conad, and Carrefour. There are also small shops like fruit shops or meat shops.

In Rome, you can find fresh cheese, olive oil, pasta, and tomatoes. I think Italian people love fresh food. The bread is warm and crunchy. The vegetables look nice, and the fruits are sweet. I really like the taste of the food in Rome.

The price in Rome is okay. Some things are cheap, like pasta and olive oil. Some things are a little expensive, like meat. But many stores have “offerta” or sale. You can buy two for the price of one. That is good if you buy more.

People in Rome do not always use shopping cart. Sometimes they use basket or small bag. The store is not so big, so you walk in a small place. But the people are friendly. Sometimes they talk to you even if they do not know you. I think that is nice.

What Is the Same

Both Vancouver and Rome have nice grocery stores. Both places sell fruits, vegetables, bread, and drinks. Both cities have big stores and small stores. You can pay with cash or card in both. People come to buy food for their family.

Both cities also have self-checkout. This is where you scan your own items and pay without talking to cashier. I think it is fast, but sometimes the machine has problem. Then you have to call someone to help you.

Also, in both cities, you have to bring your own bag or pay for a plastic bag. This is to help the environment. I bring my own bag when I go shopping.

What Is Different

The store in Vancouver is big and modern. There is a lot of space. The store in Rome is smaller and older, but very cozy. The food in Rome is more local and fresh, like cheese and pasta. In Vancouver, there are more foods from other countries.

In Vancouver, people shop quiet and fast. In Rome, people talk more, and the shopping is slow. I think in Rome, people enjoy shopping like a fun time. In Vancouver, people are busy and just want to finish fast.

Also, in Rome, you can see open market on the street. People sell vegetables, fish, and meat outside. It is colorful and interesting. In Vancouver, there are also farmers markets, but not every day.

My Feeling

I like grocery stores in both cities. In Vancouver, it is easy and clean. In Rome, it is warm and friendly. If I want food from other countries, I go to Vancouver store. If I want fresh bread and cheese, I go to Rome store.

Shopping is different, but it is fun in both places. I learn new words, new food, and how people live. I think grocery store is a good place to know a city.
